1 Month 4 days - The move Part II - December 17th

My dreamteam was motivated to finish what we had started.

Moving the Rasoul's and organizing them most of the furniture within 48 hours was only possible thanks to the help of Tony, Mo and Agnes.

Agnes brought the drill of her father and I met her in the 12th district as my sister was moving out and she donated a table and two chairs that we picked up. My mother donated plates and dishes.

In the meantime, Mo picked up the father, Abdelaziz, and drove to Sladana, a friend of mine, who donated a washing machine, a sofa and three more chairs.

Agnes and I went directly to the Rasoul's and dropped everything off. Agnes went to someone elses place to pick up more dishes while I stayed at the Rasoul's. As I am not the kind of person who can sit still when things need to be done, I decided that I would try to mount the bunk bed by myself.

As mentioned in the latest blog post, we spent hours on trying to fix the bed the night before - unable to mount it. The tables had turned now as I had a power drill and a power screwdriver. My friends know that I have very little experience with power tools. I am just not a handyman but now that I had two, I felt powerful.

I entered the room and Diar, the youngest, was deep asleep. I looked at Shamse and tried to communicate that I would not drill while the child was asleep. She replied that it was perfectly fine. We went back and forth and I sat on the floor and did my online research first. After all, I had to return the tools the same evening and I had plenty of work to do the next day.

I started to drill gently and kept looking at Diar who was still asleep. Gentle drilling takes you nowhere, so added full power - still looking at Diar but he did not even move. I drilled in total 12 - 14 holes in that sturdy bed and he did not even squint. My fingers and my arms were hurting but I did not want Shamse or Helz to do the job. There I was, drilling by myself in a room together with the most exhausted child I had ever seen.

Adding the screws was somewhat easier, seeing Diar asleep fueled me to keep going. I was filled with deep satisfaction once I was done. I sent Tony a few pictures of my work and we spoke over the phone. My job was unfortunately not done yet. Four more holes to drill and four more screws to add. The bunk bed needed to be stable.

Diar woke up and greeted me with a sleepy smile. He and his brother Mohamad wanted to help. We would hold the drill together and Mohamad would push it in with all his strength.

Shamse, Helz, Mohamad, Diar and I lifted the upper bed and put it on top of the lower one. I shook it and yes, it was finally stable and everyone was happy.

Mo and Abdelaziz arrived with the washing machine, the sofa and the three extra chairs.

Agnes was on her way back too and got several Pizzas for all of us. We ate together a well deserved meal before we said goodbye.

Within 48 hours we had arranged the washing machine, the sofa, a table, five chairs, a bunk bed, a bed sofa, bedding sheets and linen, an extra blanket, dishes and plates, a vacuum cleaner and a water cooker. One more bed was missing but at least we had all the mattresses they needed.

The Rasoul's were so thankful, they were speechless. Abdelaziz smiled at me and shook his head and he would look up in the sky. A very sweet gesture that he keeps doing to this day.

When I arrived home, I crashed. I was extremely tired. A cheerful fatigue that carried me right to sleep.
